Alberta Volleyball Premier Tournaments

Alberta Volleyball will once again be hosting the Youth Beach Tournament series for the 13U to 18U age classes.

UPDATE: There will be a 19U Men's Division (athletes born in 1992 or later) included in the June 25th Youth Tournament in Sylvan Lake. This division will coincide with the Western Summer Games tryouts on June 26th. Please contact Derek Hemsley at (780) 415 - 1703 for additional information.

2011 Rule Changes Effective Immediately:
16U & Younger
1. After a team loses service the last player to serve for that team, at the moment of service by the opposing team, must be positioned closer to the right sideline than their teammate. This requirement must be followed until the team regains the right to serve. During a rally each athlete has the freedom to position him/herself anywhere on the court.

2. Coaches must identify themselves to all parties in the match including the opposing team, the player referees and the referee supervisor in the area. The coach's name must be included on the match score sheet (if applicable). The coach must abide by the following set of rules:

  • Coaches cannot call time-outs for their athletes nor coach them to do so
  • Coaches may coach their athletes before the match begins, during time-outs and between sets only.
  • Coaching is only permitted at the request of athletes within the designated coaching area outside of the free zone.

Tournament Registration

Tournament Registration Deadline: is on the Monday at 16:00 MST, before the event. It is the players' responsibility to confirm their own registration.

Membership Fee - There is a $45 membership fee that must be paid prior to entering into all events. You must be a member in order to successfully register on-line. If you or your partner are not members, the computer will not let you enter into the event(s).

Registration Process - The AVA accepts on-line registrations ONLY. As previously stated, you must become an AVA member in order to successfully register for events.

National Championships - All Volleyball Canada's National Championships are an OPEN FORMAT. This allows ALL Alberta teams to participate. Provincial Champions in the following categories - 14U, 16U, 18U, & 21U team will receive funding to help finance their trip to Nationals. Funding for the Senior Open age category has been redirected to prize money for Pete's at the Beach & the Provincial Championships.
