Volleyball Stars Sweep 2011 CCAA Awards
April 11, 2011 - The CCAA's (Canadian Colleges Athletic Association) three most prestigious awards of 2011 have been won by CCAA volleyball stars. Landis Doyle, middle for the Humber College Hawks, is the 2011 CCAA Female Athlete of the Year Across All Sports. Sandra Lamb, women's volleyball coach for the Mount Royal University Cougars, was awarded the 2011 Coaching Excellence Award Across All CCAA Sports. Preston Tucker, setter for the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat, was named 2011 CCAA Male Athlete of the Year Across All Sports.
“The sport has improved tremendously among all of the CCAA’s conferences,” says Pierre Nobert, CCAA national women’s volleyball convenor. “It resulted in many close games at the CCAA Volleyball Championship.”

Landis Doyle finished her fifth year with the Humber College Hawks as the 2011 CCAA Female Athlete of the Year Across All Sports and 2011 CCAA Women's Volleyball Player of the Year.
“Landis Doyle had an outstanding season,” says Bernie Masterson, CCAA executive member. “She won absolutely everything.”
Throughout the 2010/11 CCAA volleyball season, Doyle received recognition for her achievements in both athletics and academics. Her numerous honours include being named a 2011 CCAA Women's Volleyball All-Canadian, 2011 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament First Team All-Star, 2011 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year for the second time, 2011 OCAA Women’s Volleyball First Team All-Star, 2011 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship Tournament MVP, 2011 Humber Female Athlete of the Year for the second time, and an inductee for the 2011 Humber Athletics Hall of Fame.
Doyle is also the all-time OCAA record holder in women's volleyball for scoring and service aces, and was named a 2011 SIRC-CCAA Academic All-Canadian for her achieved combined excellence in collegiate athletics and academics.
Doyle studies graphic design, volunteers at Humber sport clinics and referees OVA (Ontario Volleyball Association) exhibition tournaments.
The Humber College Hawks women’s volleyball team also had an impressive season; they were the 2011 OCAA provincial champions with a regular season record of 21-1, and went on to tie for fifth place at the 2011 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship.
The other nominees for 2011 CCAA Female Athlete of the Year Across All Sports were Marie Belanger of Collège Édouard Monpetit, Andria Carlyon of Grande Prairie Regional College, RuiLin Huang of Douglas College, Andrea Price of Mount Royal University and Liliane Sparks of Fanshawe College.

Sandra Lamb, recipient of the 2011 Coaching Excellence Award Across All CCAA Sports, led the Mount Royal Cougars to a national title at the 2011 CCAA Women's Volleyball Championships in March. She's also coached the team to three ACAC provincial championships (2007, 2008, 2011) two CCAA national bronze medals (2001, 2004) and a 2008 CCAA national silver medal.
“Sandra has had tremendous success in her sport” said Ray Sarkis, CCAA vice-president of programs. “She’s being recognized not only for this year’s accomplishments, but for her impressive history as a coach.”
Lamb received earlier recognition for her accomplishments; she was twice named the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year (2004, 2008) and was named 2004 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year.
When not on the court with the Cougars, Lamb coaches for the Dino Women’s Volleyball Club, AVA (Alberta Volleyball Association) High Performance Camps and at summer volleyball camps. Her coaching goal is to contribute to Canada’s national volleyball program.
The other nominees for the 2011 Coaching Excellence Award Across All CCAA Sports were David Desloges of Collège François-Xavier-Garneau, John Loney of Fanshawe College, Steve Manuel of the University of British Columbia Okanagan, Nigel Mullen of Briercrest Bible College and Seminary, and Rick Plato of Mount Saint Vincent University.

Preston Tucker completed his fourth year with the University of British Columbia Heat as the 2011 CCAA Male Athlete of the Year Across All Sports, 2011 CCAA Men's Volleyball Player of the Year and armed with a silver trophy from the 2011 CCAA Men's Volleyball Championships.
“Preston Tucker has an impressive resume both on and off the court,” said Ray Sarkis, CCAA vice-president of programs. “As an athlete he is the total package.”
Tucker was named a 2011 CCAA Men’s Volleyball All-Canadian, a member of the First All-Star team at the 2011 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship Tournament, and a 2011 CCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship Player of the Match. He is also the 2011 BCCAA Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year and a member of the 2011 BCCAA Men’s Volleyball First Team All-Star.
Tucker studies human kinetics at UBCO in addition to coaching volleyball clinics, assisting youth clubs and volunteering in the community.
The UBCO Heat men’s volleyball team had an impressive season; the team took gold at the 2011 BCCAA provincial championships with a 13-1 league win/loss record and earned silver at the 2011 CCAA Men’s Volleyball Championships.
The other nominees for 2011 CCAA Male Athlete of the Year Across All Sports were Jerome Blake of Vanier College, Matt Chan of Mount Royal University, Scott Lesher of Briercrest Bible College and Seminary and Clint Smith of Fanshawe College .
