Lorne Sawula - Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame Inductee

Congratulations to Lorne Sawula for being inducted into the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame this past month.

Lorne has been a player, coach, administrator and innovator in the sport.  He played for the University of Alberta Golden Bears from 1964-69 and also coached their varsity team as well from 1971-73.  He was the head coach of the women’s national team from 1982 to 1988 and 2001 to 2005.  He was also a head coach for the national teams in Switzerland, Australia, Sweden and Britain.  In the 1990’s, he returned to the U of A to coach both the Golden Bears and the Pandas women’s team.  With the Pandas he won six consecutive national titles.  This fall he will be the head coach with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology women’s team.  He also continues to serve Canada’s volleyball communities as a Level IV Canadian Certified Coach and as a Level III FIVB Coach and Instructor who is in demand around the world.
