AVA Summer Camps

Alberta Volleyball runs 6 weeks of volleyball camps every summer in the communities of Jasper, Sylvan Lake and Edmonton. Due to the intense playing schedules, AVA summer camps are not for the meek or mild but for those athletes who are serious about improving their volleyball skills and knowledge. These summer camps fill extremely fast every year- so be sure to Register early!  Registration opens in December; when registering please review HOW TO REGISTER-Camps/Clinics and Events. and don't forget to select RECREATIONAL PLAYER as the role for the camper ($8.25 insurance fee).

Jasper Volleyball Camp (JVC)

JVC is one of the most prestigious camps in North America. Located in the majestic Rocky Mountains in the Jasper National Park town-site, it provides the best possible scenery for a summer camp anywhere. This camp is an intensive 6 day developmental volleyball camp. The focus of the camp is to emphasize the basic skills and fitness for all levels of athletes. Each day is scheduled with approximately 6 hours of on-court instruction from top coaches and players, 3 hours of game play, fitness activities, and classroom lectures. 

JVC Facilities- Jasper Volleyball Camp takes place outdoors where you can absorb the breathtaking beauty of the incredible Rocky Mountains. The camp is based at the Jasper Activity Centre, the Jasper High School, and the Jasper Elementary School all located in the heart of the Jasper town site. The camp provides each live-in athlete with: a dining area and 3 full meals per day prepared by professional cooks, shower facilities, indoor & outdoor courts, lecture rooms, beach courts, an athletic trainer and support staff. The camp also offers supervised dormitory quarters to each athlete. Every participant will receive a limited edition "JVC T-shirt" and water bottle.

Sylvan Lake Volleyball Camp (SLVC)

Created in 1998, the Sylvan Lake Volleyball Camp uses a format similar to the Jasper Volleyball Camp and takes place in the resort town of Sylvan Lake, Alberta (15 min west of Red Deer). Much of the day is spent playing on sand courts located right on the lake! The sun, sand, and lake make for a volleyball experience that is not to be missed. The Sylvan Lake Volleyball Camp is an intensive 6-day volleyball experience. The camp emphasizes basic skills, fitness, and is suitable for all levels of athlete. Each days schedule contains approximately 5 hours of on-court instruction from top coaches and players and 2 hours of game play. Both the indoor game and the beach game will be covered in detail

SLVC Facilities- The Sylvan Lake Volleyball Camp takes place primarily outdoors right next to the lake, so you will have ample time to take in the sites and sounds of one of Alberta's premiere resort towns. Sessions run primarily on sand courts at the "pier" by the lake. Indoor courts are available if the weather turns sour. The camp provides each athlete with: quality coaching, shower facilities if required, indoor & outdoor courts, an athletic trainer and support staff. Every athlete will also receive a limited edition "Sylvan Lake Volleyball Camp T-shirt" and water bottle.

2013 Camp Dates

Jasper Week 1: 13 - 15 year olds (born in 1998 - 00): June 30- July 5
Jasper Week 2: 15 - 18 year olds (born in 1995 - 98): July 7-12
Sylvan Lake Week 1: 12 - 14 year olds : July 28 - Aug 2
Sylvan Lake Week 2: 15 - 18 year olds : Aug 4 - 9
AVA & Bears/Pandas Jr. High Camp: (Ages 13-15):  July 15 - 19
AVA & Bears/Pandas Sr. High Camp: (Ages 16-18): July 22 - 26

2013 Camp Fees (JVC & SLVC)

Day Camper- $350.00+gst per week. The Day Camp includes all camp on-court sessions, classroom sessions, and planned social activities. Each athlete is responsible for his or her own meals and accommodations.

Live-in Camper- $550.00+gst per week . The Live-in Camp includes on-court sessions, classroom sessions, planned social activities, meals, and dormitory style accommodations

Refund Policy- A full refund (less a $35.00 administration fee) will be granted to any person withdrawing from the camp prior to June 1, 2013.  A refund of $150.00 will be granted to any person withdrawing after June 1, 2013.  After June 8, 2013 all registration fees are forfeit upon cancellation.

Camp Information (JVC & SLVC)

Coaching Staff- The coaching staff for AVA Summer Camps consist of experienced University, College, and National Team coaches and players from within Canada, in addition to some International representatives.  For example, Yuzo Fukuhara (International -Tsukuba University, Japan), Clement Lemeiux (Former Head Coach, Men's National Team), Young-Sun Lee (1984 Korean Olympian and professional player), and Fumitoshi Tokunaga (International, Budo University, Japan) have coached at AVA summer camps. Recreational Activities- Wednesday is the Camp's activity day. Athletes are encouraged to participate in recreational activities. The Town of Sylvan Lake offers many recreational activities for all ages including the Wild Rapids Water Slide. Jasper activities may range from horseback trail riding, guided river rafting, and swimming. The recreational activities are not included in the price of the camp. All activities are supervised.

Pre-Camp Information- Once you are registered for the camp, further details with regards to clothing, supplies, pre-camp training program for athletes, and scheduling details will be e-mailed to you with your confirmation of registration (usually in mid- May for JVC and mid-June for SLVC).

  2. FOG Volleyball Foundation Scholarship - The FOG Volleyball Foundation has a scholarship program for many athletes; scholarships enable athletes to attend either JVC or SLVC. The amount of the scholarship ranges from $50.00 to $200 and the criteria are commitment and desire to excel in the sport of volleyball, and financial need (secondary criteria). FOG scholarship applicants are required to submit a letter of recommendation as well as a personal letter describing his/her involvement in volleyball to the AVA office. The Deadline for FOG scholarship applications is June 1, 2013.
