2010 Sportsmanlike Award Winners

This award recognizes teams who displays positive conduct and attitude on and off the court at an Alberta Volleyball tournament. They have demonstrated respect towards opponents, officials, coaches, facilities, and are supportive and helpful. A coach, official, spectator, manager, athlete, or club official can nominate a team.

The SEAVC-Mel 14U Girls team was nominated for the Sportsmanlike Award by their opponents in the Division 2 Provincial Championship final, the Seven Person Wolves. These two teams have met in two separate tournament finals this year- SEAVC made an impression on the Wolves in both tournaments:

In their first meeting, the lines person (a Seavc parent) was uncertain on a very close lines call. The Official was going to give a re-serve until the SEAVC coach indicated that it should be the Wolves point. That point gave the Wolves team some much needed energy. After that match the SEAVC parents were extremely supportive of the athletes from both teams: “great game wolves, good job,” was repeatedly called out from the stands.  At Provincials, the SEAVC parents were once again on the court after the game congratulating the Wolves girls on how well they played. The coaches, players and parents of this team were all very classy. The two young coaches showed total respect in these two matches.

The SEAVC-Mel team is comprised of: Alyssa Volk, Amber Stigter, Dakota Anton, Giana Herselman, Jadeyn Votta, Morgan Krassman, Phoebe Kriel, Taylor Adams, Tessa Fauth. The team is coached by Melanie MacDonald & Kara Hurkens.

The Smoky Lake Eagles 16U Women’s team has received the Sportsmanlike award for their actions at Premier #1 in Calgary. The Smoky Lake Eagles team distributed thank you cards for all of their game officials and the on-site tournament staff. Each card was signed by every individual on the Smoky Lake team; this gesture was truly appreciated by the tournament staff. Members of the Eagles team include: Coach Kevin Fleming, Meagan Yakimowich, Kolby Antoniuk, Desiree Billey, Ashley Fleming, Courtney Cherniwchan, Alyx Crawley, Kennedy Antoniuk, and Sharla Yakimowich.
