- 15U Boys (32 teams max.): Born in 1995 or later.
- 15U Girls (80 teams max.): Born in 1995 or later
- 16U Boys (48 teams max.): Born in 1994 or later
- 16U Girls (104 teams max.): Born in 1994 or later
Eligibility
- All teams must be registered and in good standing within their own region (P/TA) and with Volleyball Canada. Out of country teams must also be registered and in good standings within their own National Federation
- All teams must participate in the Provincial Championships held in their own Province or Territory, if one exists (team roster must be the same at Provincials and Nationals).
- All teams must meet all registration requirements.

Registration Information
Registration Opens: Thursday, January 15, 2010 *** POSTPONED TO JANUARY 22 ***

Team Roster: The teams roster may consist of a maximum of 15 players and 4 coaching staff (Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager). Only 12 of those 15 players can be registered on the scoresheet during the competition and will be permitted to play any given match. These 12 athletes may vary from one match to another.
Withdrawal: Refunds will be given (less a $100 administration fee) on withdrawals made up to the entry deadline of the event. After this time no refunds will be given.
Technical Matters:
The Official Volleyball Canada 2009-2010 Indoor Rule Book shall govern play at the National Championships
Please review the 2009-2010 Indoor Competition Guide for details concerning eligibility, divisions, seeding, scouting, etc. All coaches and team contacts should be aware of its content.
Team Check-In:
It is MANDATORY that the Head Coach completes the team check-in on Friday, May 21 at the Olympic Oval between 10:00 am and 9:00 pm. At check-in, coaches will be asked to verify their team roster, pick up player/coaches packages, and will be given all relevant event information. Teams will not be permitted to begin play without having completed the team check-in.
Special consideration may be made for particular teams who need to check-in on Saturday morning; requests for Saturday check-ins must be made in advance to Diane Clarke.
Feature Match/Opening Ceremonies:
There will be a feature match on Friday May 21 at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium (University of Calgary). All teams participating in the Canadian West Open are welcome to attend; admission to the feature match is free of charge. There will not be an official opening ceremonies at this years Canadian Open; the Feature Match is in lieu of the Opening Ceremonies.
This year's match will feature our Canadian Women National Team competing in a inter-squad match. The National Team athletes will also be in the Olympic Oval on Saturday, May 22 to meet and sign autographs.
Time: 7 p.m.

Coaches Meeting:
There will NOT be a coaches meeting prior to this year's Canadian West Open. In lieu of the coaches meeting, the HEAD COACH must complete the Team Check-In.
It is MANDATORY that the Head Coach completes the team check-in on Friday, May 21 at the Olympic Oval between 10:00 am and 9:00 pm. At check-in, coaches will be asked to verify their team roster, pick up player/coaches packages, and will be given all relevant event information. Teams will not be permitted to begin play without having completed the team check-in.
All information normally presented at the coaches meeting will be given to the HEAD COACH at the Team Check-In.
Please note that ALL COACHES, ASSISTANT COACHES, and MANAGERS who sit on your team’s bench during the Canadian Open must be registered members of your respective Provincial Association.
It has been brought to our attention that a large number of coaches, assistant coaches and managers are not currently registered members. In order to ensure all participants are members and have medical insurance and liability coverage at the event, Volleyball Canada and the Provincial Volleyball Associations will grant an exemption to the March 31st roster deadline to add these coaches, assistant coaches and managers to their team roster.
All coaches/assistant coaches and managers must be registered & added to your team roster by Wednesday, May 12th at midnight EST or they will not be allowed on the bench at the Canadian West Open.
Please note: there will be a maximum of four team staff (coaches/assistant coaches/managers) allowed per team on the bench at the Canadian West Open.
Check-in Process – 2010 Canadian West Open:
- Head Coaches will verify their team’s Roster at check in.
- Tournament Staff will sign their Approved Roster and give a copy of the roster to the Head Coach.
- The Head Coach will need to show their Approved Roster to the Official prior to each match.
- Only members of the approved roster will be able to sit on the bench/participate in the match.
Coaches' Certification:
Coaches are requested to present proof of coaching certification to scorekeepers at the beginning of each match, along with their team roster. If coaching certification is not presented, officials will make a note on the scoresheet for the tournament committee to take action.
Tournament Schedule/Results:
On Saturday May 22 and Sunday May 23, there will be two Block Starting Times:
In the A.M. WAVE, the first matches begin at 7:30 a.m. and the last matches begin at 1:15 p.m..
On both Saturday and Sunday the A.M. WAVE includes:
- 16U Women (Division 1)
- 16U Women (Division 2)
- 16U Women (Division 3 and 4)
- 15U Men
In the P.M. WAVE, the first matches start at 2:30 p.m. and the last matches start at 8:15 p.m..
On both Saturday and Sunday, the P.M. WAVE includes:
- 15U Women (Division 1)
- 15U Women (Division 2)
- 15U Women (Division 3)
- 16U Men (Division 1)
- 16U Men (Division 2)
On Monday May 24th, the playoffs take place. All teams should be prepared to play at 7:30 a.m. and throughout the day. The final match on Monday will be scheduled no later than 4:30pm.
We do our best to run on schedule, however unforseen events may cause the tournament to run later than expected.
Practice Times:
One-hour practice time-slots may be booked at the Olympic Oval on Friday May 21, 2010 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Practice times will be given on a first-come first serve basis and will only be available to teams who book IN ADVANCE. Teams will need to be registered in the tournament (not on the waiting list) prior to booking a practice time. All practice time requests must be made before midnight on Monday May 3, 2010.

Warm-up Time:
A minimum of 10 minutes (5-5 hitting) will be available for warm-up prior to the start of each math. Teams will be able to warm up with volleyballs in designated ball warm-up areas before each match.
Referees:
Volleyball Canada certified officials will be assigned to each match. Official's coordination will be done throught consultation with the Province and Territory Officials Chairs and the National Officials Chair.
Officials' Meeting:
All certified officials are requested to attend the mandatory referee technical meeting, chaired by the Referee Supervisor.

Minor Officials (Scorekeepers and Linespeople):
Teams will be required to provide one linesperson and one scorekeeper for each of their matches. For more information on scorekeeping, please download the Scorekeepers Guidelines and the "Scorekeepers Info Package" (coming soon).
Medical Services:
There will be medical attention provided for the athletes by Emergency Medical Services personnel.
There will also be a team of athletic therapists located in the Athletic Therapy room for taping, ice, and other requirements.
Transportation & Parking:
Teams are responsible for arranging their own transportation to, from, and during the championships.

Spectators:
There will be an admission fee charged to spectators. Spectators can either purchase a day pass or a tournament pass (3 days).

- Child (6 and under)= Free
All spectators will be held to the following Code of Conduct:
- No Airhorns with CO2 or mechanical noise makers.
- Violence, bad language, verbal abuse towards athletes, coaches, officials, or staff will not be tolerated.
- Please recycle cans/bottles and place your trash in the receptacle bins provided.
Tournament Jury:
The tournament jury is composed of a Volleyball Canada/Domestic Competition Committee (DCC) representative, Host committee representative, and the Referee Supervisor. For more information on the Jury's powers and duties, please consult the 2009-2010 Indoor Competition Guide.
Performance Bond:
The $400.00 team performance bond remains the responsibility of each Provincial/Territorial Association. Ultimately, teams will be required to forward the bonds amount in the event of any infraction which affect:
- VC Code of conduct violation
- Accommodation/facility damages
- Uniform regulation
- Coaches fail to meet coaching certification requirements
- If a team does not fulfill its competitive obligations to an event.
