16U Head Coach: Adam Sillery, Red Deer
17U Head Coach: Jeff Smith, Calgary
Alberta Volleyball's focus for this age class is to provide a larger number of athletes with the opportunity to train in a challenging, developmental environment and receive education on what it takes to prepare, train and perform at a high level. For this age class, there is an emphasis on the training component and developing well-rounded athletes.
For 2012, a maximum of 30 - 16U athletes and 30 - 17U athletes will be identified and invited to the Team Alberta Training Camp in July. Athletes will have the opportunity to be identified through their participation in the AVA Premier Tournaments or through their participation in the High Performance Camps in February and March, 2012.
From July 2nd to July 14th, 2012, the athletes will train as a group in a competitive and challenging environment. The athletes will be exposed to a range of quality coaches from across Alberta and their on-court activities will be supplemented with physical testing and off-court training, sport science sessions and multi-sport opportunities.
On July 14th, one 16U team of 12 athletes and one 17U team of 12 athletes will be selected and will continue to train before representing Alberta at the Western Elite Championships.
